Spain’s president lauds PM Hasina on 50 years of diplomatic ties
Spanish President Pedro Sanchez lauded the socio-economic development of Bangladesh achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and its responsible, active and visible role in the regional and international arena, including the United Nations.
He expressed this view in an exchange of greetings on the occasion of golden jubilee of diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and Spain, said a press release issued by Bangladesh Embassy in Madrid yesterday (May 15, 2022). Spain gave diplomatic recognition to Bangladesh as an independent country on May 12, 1972.
Since the opening of Spain's residential embassy in Dhaka in 2008, the bilateral relations have intensified and expanded, the president of Spain said.
Spain is currently Bangladesh's fourth largest export destination. Spanish entrepreneurs and investors are showing interest in expanding their presence in Bangladesh, the press release said.
Sanchez expressed confidence that Spain will continue work with Bangladesh as a close partner to increase the scope and diversity of trade.
On the other hand, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recalled her bilateral meeting with the Spanish president on the sidelines of the COP-25 summit in Madrid in 2019.
She expressed hope that mutual bilateral cooperation in the sectors of industry and technology support, digital connectivity, power and energy, development of logistics and transport infrastructure, tackling the impact of climate change, education, culture and research will be further expanded in the coming days.
Hasina also called for an increase of Spanish investment in various potential sectors of Bangladesh. In the message, the prime minister invited the president of Spain to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
