Jaishankar arrives in Dhaka for Indian Ocean Conference
Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar arrived in Dhaka today evening to attend the two-day Indian Ocean Conference scheduled to begin tomorrow.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam received him at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma was also present.
"Looking forward to his exchanges and share ideas for greater regional prosperity," Shahriar tweeted.
"Always a pleasure to welcome Dr S Jaishankar who has always supported IOC," he said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to inaugurate the conference titled, "Peace, Prosperity and Partnership for Resilient Future", organised jointly by India Foundation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.
The sixth edition of the conference brings high-level government delegations and think tanks from at least 25 countries to discuss cooperation among the regional countries.
Mauritius President Prithvirajsing Roopun, Maldives Vice President Faisal Naseem, Sychelles Minister for Internal Affairs Errol Fonseka, Madagascar Defence Minister Josoa Rakotoarijaona, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation of Sri Lanka Nimal Siripala De Silva, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Tharaka Balasuriya also arrived today.
Apart from them, foreign ministers of Bhutan, Nepal, Bahrain, and Singapore; state minsters from Japan, Cambodia, Australia, and the UAE; deputy ministers from Somalia, Vietnam, and high-level delegations from the Philippines, the US, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Thailand, and Germany and representatives from D-8, Saarc, and BIMSTEC will also participate in the conference.
