Bangladesh invites Uzbekistan to monitor polls
Bangladesh has invited Uzbekistan to send election monitoring team during the upcoming national elections due late this year or early next year.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has extended the invitation to Uzbekistan's Deputy Foreign Minister Bakhromjon A'loyev during a meeting, according to a foreign ministry statement today.
A'loyev also requested foreign minister Momen to send election monitoring team for Uzbekistan's presidential elections scheduled for July 9.
During the visit by the Uzbekistan minister, the two countries held the second foreign office consultation that discussed a range of issues.
The two countries are eying direct air and shipping services to boost trade and commerce between the two countries.
Momen and A'loyev also discussed about operating direct shipping service between Chattogram Port of Bangladesh and Chabahar Port of Iran in a bid to reduce the cost of transport.
Foreign Minister Momen expressed eagerness to import cotton from Uzbekistan. Bangladesh also showed interest in setting up fertilizer factory in Uzbekistan under joint venture.
Momem also assured A'loyev of full Bangladesh's full cooperation if Uzbekistan wants to establish its diplomatic mission here.
