Youth rapes teenager in Natore

A youth reportedly raped a ninth grader girl of Brichapila village of Chapila union under Gurudaspur upazila in Natore in the early hours of yesterday.

The accused is Mehedi Hasan, 22, son of Md Abdur Rahim Sheikh of Brichapila village, reports our Natore correspondent quoting Gurudaspur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Matin.

According to the police, Mehedi Hasan and the girl had developed a romantic interest. He called on her phone and asked her to come out of the house around 12:30 am yesterday, according to the case statement.

At the time, when the girl came out of the house, promising to marry her, he took her to a bamboo garden nearby and forced himself on her and raped her and fled the scene, it said.

When the girl fell ill, her family members admitted her to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. The young man's family repeatedly tried to resolve the issue through arbitration but failed, police said.

Police visited the hospital as soon as the hospital's One-Stop-Crisis Centre (OCC) informed them and got to know the truth of the matter.

Later, the victim's mother filed a case with the Gurudaspur Police Station yesterday.

Efforts are on to arrest the accused, police said.
