Youth beaten to death in Dhamrai
A youth was allegedly beaten to death and another was critically injured in Amchipur village, under Dhaka's Dhamrai upazila.
The incident occurred last night centring the upcoming union parishad elections scheduled to be held on November 11.
The deceased was identified as Shihan (20) and the injured is Alomgir Hossain (30). Shahin and Alomgir used to work for Abdul Mojid -- the Awami League nominated chairman candidate.
Alomgir is now undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), reports our Savar correspondent quoting police.
Atiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhamrai Police Station, said, "We are investigating the incident and several police teams are working to detain the involved."
The OC, however, claimed that the murder happened due to previous enmity.
"Preparation to file a case in this regard is underway," the OC said.
Khadija Begum, sister of injured Alomgir said, "Last night, some youths including Dipu, son of Mizanur Rahman Mizu -- chairman of Jadabpur union parishad -- and also a rebel candidate, took Shihan and Alomgir to an abandoned house at Amchipur village."
Later Dipu and his associates beat them up, she said, adding that locals later rescued them and took them to NITOR.
Meanwhile, Shila, daughter of Mizanur Rahman Mizu, said that her father and her brother were not in the area during the incident. The victims' families are trying to frame them, she said.
