Body recovered

Police recovered a decomposed body of a woman from a garbage depot in the Bhangapress area of Jatrabari in the capital last night.

The deceased expected to be around 25 to 30 years old could not be identified immediately. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy this morning, Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector Farzana Akhter told The Daily Star.

"On information, the body was recovered from the garbage depot around 10:00 pm last night," she said.

Parts of the body were burnt and decomposed. An investigation is underway in this connection," the SI added.

"DNA of the body was collected to know the victim's identity," said the police official.

"We suspect that the woman's body was left at the garbage depot after murder. The body might have been burnt because the garbage at the depot is often set on fire," said Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam.
