War crimes suspect sued in Manikganj
A man from Singair upazila in Manikganj has been sued for his alleged involvement in war crimes during the Liberation War in 1971.
Mosharraf Hossain, son of Abdus Salam -- murdered during the Liberation War, filed the case against BarkatUllah (now 80) with the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Manikganj today.
Barkat was a Peace Committee member during the war, he mentioned in the case statement.
As Salam's elder son Mostaher Billah took part in the Liberation War, Barkat along with three Razakars -- Golam Azam, Abdul Manna and Badsha Fakir -- looked for him in different areas including at his house to kill him, the case statement said.
Failing to catch Mostaher, five Pakistani army personnel in association with the Razakars picked up Salam on September 27.
They bayoneted him to death and dumped the body in Kornopara canal in Savar, Mosharraf mentioned in the case statement, adding they found their father's clothes but did not find his body.
Talking to our Manikganj correspondent, Mosharraf said he did not dare to file a case for a long time, as Barkat's son is a local influential man.
He said he wants justice for his father's murder.
Barkat was made lone accused in the case as three othersalready died.
Inspector Anisur Rahman of Manikganj court police said Judge Aminul Islam received the case and forwarded the case docket to the International Crimes Tribunal.
