Two sent to jail for rape of minor

Two men were sent to jail yesterday for raping a 14-year-old at the Karatoa riverbank in Dinajpur's Ghoraghat upazila.

The arrestees are Sapan Chandra Roy, 25, son of Bishu Chandra Roy of Jolapara village, and Morsalin Islam, 22, son of Sirajul Islam of Purbapara village, police said. 

Quoting the case filed by the victim's father, Abu Hasan Kabir, OC of Ghoraghat police, said the girl, along with her 10-year-old cousin, went to the Karatoa riverbank during load-shedding in the area around 7:30pm on Wednesday.

There, she met with a male friend. The two were chatting when Sapan and Morsalin appeared and scared the boy off.

They then forced her to a jute field and raped her.

Upon her cousin's screams, locals rushed to the spot but the culprits had fled by then.

The two were arrested during midnight raids and were produced before a court, which sent them to jail yesterday afternoon.
