Two held for harassing woman, posting clip
Police yesterday arrested two men in connection with sexually harassing a 50-year-old woman in Sylhet.
The victim, of a remote village in Sylhet's Kanaighat upazila, was sexually harassed by four abusers on August 29. They also filmed the incident.
They later demanded money from her two expatriate sons. As the sons failed to pay the money, they made the videos viral, said police.
Police on Monday night traced the woman, identified the abusers and recorded a case filed by the victim with Kanaighat Police Station.
The accused are: Md Abdullah, 38, Abdullah, 27, Jabbar, 22, and Saidullah, 27. They are from the same village of the victim.
Police held Md Abdullah, and Saidullah early yesterday and the two others are on the run, said Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kanaighat Police Station.
According to police and the case statement, the woman, who is a widow, lives in her village home alone as her two sons are expatriates and daughters are married.
Around midnight on August 29, the four forcibly entered the woman's house and sexually harassed her. They videoed the incident on their mobile phones and later forwarded the video clips to her expatriate sons and demanded Tk 5 lakh for not making the videos viral, the case statement said.
The victim's sons then contacted their relatives who tried to settle the issue with money and agreed to pay the abusers Tk 1 lakh on Saturday. As they failed to pay the money, the abusers uploaded the videos on Facebook the next day.
OC Tajul said, "This is a heinous crime and we've already informed the police headquarters that steps would be taken to remove the video clips from Facebook."
"We are trying to arrest the other accused," he added.
