Two arrested for raping seventh grader in Lalmonirhat
Two youths have been arrested for raping a seventh-grade student overnight in a locked room in Lalmonirhat's Kaliganj upazila, police said.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station Golam Rasul confirmed the arrest today.
The arrests were made last night following a rape case filed by the victim's family yesterday afternoon, our Lalmonirhat correspondent reports.
The arrestees -- Ripon Mia (27), and Monir Uddin (19) -- are from Harram village of Kaliganj upazila.
According to the police, Ripon and Monir picked up the girl around 8:30 pm on January 23, kept her in an abandoned house in the area, and raped her overnight. Since the girl fell sick, they left her on the bank of the Sati river around 6:00 am the following day (January 24), and fled.
The victim's family members rescued her with the help of locals and admitted her to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex. When the victim's condition deteriorated, she was shifted to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for better treatment the same day.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital.
