Two arrested over rape of madrasa girl

Police yesterday arrested two people in a case of rape of a minor girl in Narayanganj's Araihazar upazila.

The arrestees -- Delwar Hossain, 40, and Kajali Begum, 24, -- are residents of Krishnapura and Duptora areas in the upazila.

Citing the case statement, police said the 10-year-old girl, a madrasa student, was returning to her Krishnapura home from her madrasa around 8:00pm on Monday.

Kajali, who was acquainted with the victim, intercepted her and took her to her home. Delwar raped the girl there, said Arif Hossain, sub-inspector of Araihazar Police Station.

After returning home, the girl informed her parents about the incident.

Yesterday morning, the victim's father filed a case against Delwar and Kajali with the police station.

Police with the help of locals arrested the two accused from Krishnapura, the SI told The Daily Star.

Later in the day, a Narayanganj court sent the arrestees to jail after police produced them before it, said Zobayer Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Araihazar Police Station.

The victim was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for medical examinations, he added.
