Tk 80 lakh graft: Suspended DIG prisons sent to jail after surrender
A Dhaka court today sent suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of prisons Partha Gopal Banik to jail after he surrendered before it in a case filed over recovering Tk 80 lakh from his home in Dhaka.
Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam of the Special Judge's Court-4 of Dhaka passed the order after Partha Gopal surrendered before the court as per the direction from the High Court.
On September 2, the HC bench, led by Justice M Enayetur Rahim, delivered a short verdict scrapping an order of Judge Md Iqbal Hossain of the Dhaka Special Judges' Court-5 that granted Partha bail in the corruption case, saying it was done in an "unusual manner".
Delivering the judgment on an appeal, the bench also ordered the suspended DIG to surrender before the trial court concerned by September 20 in connection with the case.
