Three killed in ‘gunfights’ with law enforcers
Three alleged robbers were killed in "gunfights" with Rab in Mymensingh and Cox's Bazar early yesterday.
The identities of two "robbers" killed in Mymensingh's Gafargaon could not be known immediately.
A Rab team raided Bharoil area acting on information that some robbers were planning to commit a robbery in the area around 3:00am, said Lt Col Abu Nayeem Md Talat, commanding officer of Rab-14.
Sensing the presence of Rab members, the criminals opened fire. The Rab members retaliated, triggering a "gunfight", said the Rab official.
After the "gun battle", the Rab members found two bullet-hit persons on the spot and they were taken to Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead, added the official.
Rab claimed to have recovered two firearms and several sharp weapons from the spot.
Two Rab members were also hurt in the incident, the Rab official claimed.
In Cox's Bazar, the alleged chief of a gang of robbers was killed in a similar incident at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya around 4:00am yesterday, said Rab.
The deceased was Md Karimullah, 30, a Rohingya.
After a "gunfight", the body of Karimullah was found lying on the spot, said Tanveer Hasan, deputy commanding officer of Rab-15.
Rab claimed to have recovered two homemade firearms and four bullets from the spot.
Monjur Morshed, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station, said the body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
