Teen’s death after falling in Ctg drain: Petition seeks Tk 10 crore compensation

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court, seeking its directive on the authorities concerned, to give Tk 10 crore as compensation to the family of university student, Sehrin Mahbub Sadia, who died after falling into an open roadside drain in Chattogram city in September.

Rights organisation Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK), Children's Charity Bangladesh (CCB) Foundation and Sadia's maternal uncle Zahid Uddin Belal submitted the petition through their lawyer Aneek R Haque to the HC today.

The petitioners requested the HC to direct the Chattogram City Corporation authorities to ensure sufficient safety measures to avoid accidents.

They said in the petition that Sadia died due to the negligence of Chattogram City Corporation.

Lawyer Aneek R Haque told The Daily Star that the HC may hold hearing on the petition next Sunday.

Deceased Sadia (19) was a first year honours student of International Islamic University Chittagong's computer science department.

She died after falling into a roadside drain in the port city's Agrabad Badamtoli area on September 27 this year.
