Criminals severed an arm of a union-level Swechchhasebak League leader in Narail's Lohagara upazila on Sunday night. 

The victim, Akbar Hossain alias Lipon, 45, is the convener of Mallickpur union unit Swechchhasebak League.

His family said criminals attacked Akbar with sharp weapons when he was returning home in Mangalhata village around 9:30pm. They cut off his right arm from the elbow.

He was first taken to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex and later moved to Dhaka as his condition was critical.

Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Lohagara Police Station, said Akbar had a conflict with former Mallickpur Union Parishad chairman Mostafa Kamal over establishing dominance in the area.

He said police were investigation the incident.
