Suspected Rohingya drug peddler flees from Ctg court
A Rohingya man, who was arrested by the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in possession with 1,050 yaba pills, today fled from police custody at Chattogram Court Building.
The incident took place when two police constables of Kotwali Police Station were escorting seven accused including the Rohingya man, arrested in different cases, on the way to court jail on the ground floor, reports our Chattogram correspondent quoting court sources.
Police and court sources said Sub-Inspector (SI) Tipu Sultan of DNC Chattogram Unit arrested alleged Rohingya drug peddler Abul Kalam (25), along with 1,050 yaba pills, while conducting a drive at the Station Road area today.
Later he was handed over to Kotwali Police Station while the SI filed a case with the police facility accusing the Rohingya man.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (Prosecution) Kamrul Hasan of CMP told The Daily Star, "Two constables escorted the seven accused at the court building. The accused were first taken to GRO section of Kotwali. After an entry in the register book, they were going to court prison on the ground floor of the court building."
"The Rohingya man managed to flee on the way to court jail after dodging the policemen," said the ADC.
Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, said, "Another case was filed in this connection against the Rohingya man. We are taking action against the policemen who showed negligence in their duty. Police are trying to arrest him."
