Sub-inspector of police arrested over rape accusation in Dhaka

A sub-inspector (SI) of police was arrested after a woman filed a rape case against him with Gulshan Police Station this morning.

The arrestee was identified as Khairul Alam, SI of Sher-E-Bangla Nagar Police Station.

Faruk Hossain, deputy commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said Khairul was arrested after the 20-year-old woman filed a case against him under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Police produced him before a Dhaka court seeking a five-day remand but the court sent him to jail, rejecting the remand prayer. The court however allowed police to interrogate him at the jail gate for a day, court sources said.

The woman said she first met the SI when she went to Sher-E-Bangla Nagar Police Station to file a case against one of her friends a month ago, according to the case statement.

On Monday, the SI took the woman to a house in Niketon assuring her of solving the problem with her friend and raped her there. He then beat her up and warned her against disclosing the incident, the case statement added.
