Stepson murder: Death-row convict arrested after 5 years in Jashore

Police arrested a death row convict of the seven-year-old child Rabbi murder case, who has been absconding for five years and seven months, from Jashore's Lautara village last night.
The arrestee was identified as Bilkis Begum, second wife of Ayatullah Khomini and stepmother of the victim, hailing from Balia village of Jashore's Jhikargacha upazila, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Suman Bakta, officer-in-charge of the police facility.
The arrest was made last night following secret information, he added.
Police sources said, on October 13, 2009, the death row convict called her step-son Rabbi to eat rice and killed him by mixing pesticides with his rice.
The following day, the victim's uncle Mominur Rahman filed a murder case against Bilkis with Jhikargacha Police Station.
In April 2010, sub-inspector of Jhikargacha Police Station submitted a charge sheet with a court against Bilkis. On July 4, 2011, the court framed the charges against her.
On September 8, 2010, Bilkis got bail from the court.
On May 11, 2016, the court found Bilkis guilty over the murder and awarded her death penalty and fined her Tk 20,000.
After the announcement of the verdict, Bilkis went into hiding.
