Spreading disinformation: Badrunnessa college teacher sued under DSA, placed on remand
Rab today sued Begum Badrunnessa Government Girls College Teacher Ruma Sarker on charge of circulating on social media an old video footage of a murder in Dhaka's Pallabi as the killing of Jatan Kumar Saha during recent communal violence in Noakhali.
Warrant officer Monir Uddin of Rab-3 filed the case around 3:00am under Digital Security Act (DSA) with Ramna Police Station, sub-inspector Amirul Islam, a duty officer of the police station, told The Daily Star.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court placed Ruma, an assistant professor of the college, on a two-day remand after Ramna police produced her before the court with a 7-day remand prayer.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Masud-Ur-Rahman passed the order, court sources said.
Yesterday, Rab members picked up Ruma from her Baily Road residence and took her to Rab Headquarters for quizzing in this regard.
The video footage is of the killing of a trader Shahin Uddin, who was stabbed dead by two youths in front of his son on May 16.
Several persons, including a former lawmaker, were arrested earlier in this connection.
