They are: Sohel Ahmed Pallab (48); Palash Sheikh (34), an informant; Masud Rana (46); and Robin Hawlader (50).
A team of detectives (Mirpur Division) arrested them from different areas of Dhaka yesterday and recovered 20 tola of gold ornaments, Mohammad Harun Or Rashid, additional commissioner (detective) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told a press conference today.
On July 18, ASI Jahidul along with some others intercepted jewellery shop employee Titu Pradhaniya in the capital's Gabtoli, introducing themselves as "detectives", and robbed the 38 tola of gold.
Titu was waiting in the Gabotli area to catch a bus to deliver the gold to shops in Tangail, he mentioned in the case statement.
At the briefing, the DB official said, "We got names of some others. We are trying to arrest them and recover the rest of the gold."
Asked whether any other police personnel were involved in the gang, Harun replied in the negative.
Replying to a query, He said, "ASI Jahidul was arrested as primarily he was found involved. We will be able to know his role after investigation."
"None is above law. Bangladesh Police will not take responsibility of individual's crime," he said.
