Six injured in BCL infighting at Sir Ashutosh Govt College
At least six Bangladesh Chhatra League activists were injured as two factions of Kunungopara Sir Ashutosh Govt College BCL clashed while placing floral wreaths at the campus Shaheed Minar in Chattogram on the occasion of Independence Day today.
The injured were Altaf Hossain Hridoy, an HSC student; Suva Das, a fourth-year student of accounting; Mahim Uddin, a BBS student; Arafat Hossain Tarek, convener of the college BCL, Md Irfan, its joint convener; and Md Noman, college sources said, adding that they were admitted to different hospitals in Boalkhali upazila and the port city, reports pir Chattogram staff correspondent.
According to sources, the college's BCL unit is divided into two factions -- one is led by Tarek and the other by Irfan. The factions have earlier gotten into altercations at different times over establishing supremacy on the campus.
On Sunday, after Irfan's group were coming back from placing their wreaths, the Tarek-led faction locked in a clash with them around 11:30am.
Witnesses said both the factions swooped on each other with sticks, iron rods, adding that a programme organised by the college authorities was going on at that time.
Police rushed to the spot around 12:00pm and brought the situation under control, they said.
