Sinha murder: Cox’s Bazar court starts second phase of testimony

A Cox's Bazar court today started the second phase of testimony in a case filed over the murder of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judges Court of Judge Ismail Hossain began recording statements of witnesses around 10:15am, our staff correspondent reports quoting Public Prosecutor Faridul Alam.

Around 9:40am, 15 accused of the case were produced before the court, the prosecutor said, adding that the trial will continue till Wednesday.

The court set September 5 (today) for beginning the second phase of the testimony on August 25. On that day, it recorded statements of the plaintiff Sharmin Shahriar (Sinha's sister), and eyewitness Shahidul Islam Sifat.

Also, the defence concluded cross-examination of the two witnesses on August 25.

In the first phase, the court was scheduled to take testimonies from 15 witnesses in three days but it was able to record statements of only two witnesses.

According to the case charge sheet, total 83 people are witnesses.

The court fixed to record statements in June but it was not possible due to the coronavirus situation.

Major (retd) Sinha was shot dead on Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive on July 31, 2020.
