A sub-inspector of the Detective Branch of Police was arrested today for raping a woman at a hotel in Khulna.

The arrestee is Jahangir Alam, reports our Khulna correspondent quoting Hasan Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Khulna Sadar Police Station.

"The SI was arrested from the scene of the crime," the OC said, adding that a rape case was filed against him and that he was sent to jail through a court.

According to the case statement, the victim came to Khulna with her daughter from Bagerhat to visit a doctor as she was ill and booked a room at the hotel.

"In a drunken state, SI Jahangir forcibly went to the room and raped the woman," read the statement.

Hearing the victim screaming, the hotel manager called the nearby police station and later the police arrested Jahangir from the scene.

"The victim was sent to the One-Stop Crisis Centre of Khulna Medical College Hospital, said OC Mamun.
