Services of 2,400 Ansars: SC disposes appeals with observations

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today (August 2, 2022) disposed of with observations the appeals against the High Court verdicts that directed the government to reinstate to service some 2,400 Ansar members who were dismissed following the Ansar mutiny in 1994.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has not disclosed the observations today.

The observations will be known when the full text of the verdict will be registered, a three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique said.

Other two judges of the bench are Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice M Enayetur Rahim.

The SC delivered the verdict after hearing three appeals and three leave to appeal petitions filed by the state and the director general of Ansar and VDP challenging the HC verdicts.

Advocate Salahuddin Dolon, a lawyer for the Ansar members, told The Daily Star that the Appellate Division verdict is positive for his clients as the court has not granted the appeals against the HC verdicts.

The fates of the Ansar members can be known after the written copy of the SC verdict will be released, the lawyer said.

Senior lawyer and Supreme Court Bar Association President Md Momtaz Uddin Fakir also appeared for the Ansar members while Attorney General AM Amin Uddin represented the state.
