Row over rice hoarding: Journalist stabbed in Jamalpur

A journalist from Jamalpur's Islampur upazila was stabbed allegedly by local businessman this afternoon.

Enamul Haque, Islampur correspondent of Dainik Kalbela, is undergoing treatment at Jamalpur General Hospital, reports our district correspondent.

The incident took place at Asad Dali Rice Mill at Jhawgara area of Islampur municipality around 3:30pm.

Quoting journalists, Suman Talukder, officer-in-charge of Islampur Police Station said someone informed Enamul Haque that a large number of VGF rice have been kept illegally in the Asad Dali Rice Mill.

Later Enamul with three other local journalists went to the spot and entered the rice mill.

Suddenly Enamul had an altercation with the mill owner Arif Miah over the sacks of VGF rice. At one a stage of alteration, Arif stabbed him in the belly, leaving him critically injured, the OC said.

On information, police went to the spot and rescued him and admitted him to Jamalpur General Hospital, the OC added.

Since the incident, Arif went into hiding and could not be reached for his comments over phone.

No case was filed over the incident, the OC said.
