Row Over Parir Pahar: Police detain four for felling tree

Police yesterday detained four labourers as they cut down a tree at Parir Pahar, popularly known as Court Building.

This led to a tense stand-off between Chattogram district administration and lawyers.

"It's our place, we're renovating it, that's why we felled the tree with permission. They (administration) have no right to halt it," said Chattogram District Bar Association general secretary AHM Ziauddin.

Meanwhile, Chattogram DC Mohammed Mominur Rahaman said, "They have only 12 decimals of land on the hill. Most of their buildings on the hill are illegal."

"We have filed a GD with Kotwali Police Station over this," he said.
