River pollution: Utility services of 5 tanneries cut off in Savar

Department of Environment (DoE) today disconnected the utility services of five tanneries located in BSCIC Tannery Industrial Estate in Savar for releasing liquid waste into the Dhaleshwari river.
Johirul Islam Talukdar, deputy director of DoE's Dhaka district office, confirmed it to our Savar correspondent.
The five tanneries are: Zaheer Tanning Industries, S&S Tannery, Ismail Leather, Momtaz Tannery, and Lien Enterprises.
DoE Executive Magistrate Kazi Tamjid Ahmed led the drive.
"The utility connections of the tannery factories were cut off for releasing liquid waste into river violating a High Court order," said Johirul, adding that such drives will continue.
