Remark on Bangabandhu’s mural: Katakhali Mayor Abbas Ali suspended

Katakhali Municipality (under Paba upazila in Rajshahi) Mayor Abbas Ali has been suspended for making a derogatory remark about Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's mural.

Shahana Akter Jahan, deputy director (local government) in Rajshahi, confirmed the development today quoting a letter signed by Deputy Secretary of Local Government Division Farzana Mannan, which was issued on Wednesday, reports our local staff correspondent.

A team of Rapid Action Battalion on December 1, arrested Abbas from Hotel Razmoni Ishakha in Dhaka after three cases were filed against him, including one under the Digital Security Act, for the remark he made.

A leaked recording of the remark has been circulating on social media since November 21.
