Rab works in accordance with Bangladesh’s constitution: DG Mamun

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) is performing duties in accordance with the constitution and rules of Bangladesh, its Director General (DG) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has said.
He came up with the comment while addressing reporters at the Barguna Patharghata launch ghat today.
Replying to a query about international community's criticism, the Rab chief said, "When we work, our activities are investigated by the executive magistrate through the judicial system. The police also investigate it. But we do not investigate. If any necessity arises after investigation, then a case is registered".
The case is investigated later, he said adding that in the judicial system, investigation of the case goes to the court and a verification is conducted.
"Our activities are accepted after all the decisions come in," he said.
"Besides, we have independent media, we have civil society. Every issue is thoroughly scrutinised from all angles. There is no chance of violating human rights here. Everything is being organised in the light of law and order," he said.
The Rab DG also warned those who are still involved in robbery in the coastal areas of the Sundarbans.
"We are ready to help if anyone needs. But we will not allow robbery," he said.
"We have made the Sundarbans robber free and we are also committed to making the sea free of robbers," added the Rab DG.
While addressing the fishermen and traders, the Rab chief said, "We are with you. Feel free to catch fish, we will be there by your side."
Later, he handed over Tk 1 lakh to the family of a fisherman who was killed by robbers in the sea last week. He also handed over Tk 10,000 to a fisherman's family who was abducted by robbers from the coastal area.
