Rab arrests fugitive convict 28 years after he raped, killed 14-yr-old

Rapid Action Battalion yesterday arrested a man who had been on the run for 28 years after raping and killing a 14-year-old girl in Netrakona.
A Rab team arrested Abdur Razzak alias Jakir Hossain, 60, who had been sentenced to death in 2002, from Gachha area in Gazipur, said Lt Col Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed, commanding officer of Rab-3.
Razzak along with at least 12 others gang-raped the girl on April 14, 1995.
They then strangled her to death. Police later found the body wrapped inside a sack from the area.
The victim's father filed a case against 10 people, making Razzak the prime accused, Rab officials said quoting the case statement.
A court awarded five including Razzak the death penalty and sentenced seven others to life imprisonment in 2002.
The Rab CO said Razzak fled to Dhaka's Kuril area from Netrakona after the rape and murder in 1995 and started working as a rickshaw-puller. He later shifted to Uttara and started driving an auto-rickshaw there.
After hiding there for about six years, Razzak went to Gazipur's Gachha area and changed his name to Jakir. He even got an NID against the fake name and address.
