Rab arrests ‘4 JMB men after gunfight’
A team of Rab-14 arrested four alleged members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), following a "gunfight" in Mymensingh early yesterday.
The arrestees are Julhas Uddin alias Kaderi alias Mehdi, 34, and Alal alias Ishaq, 48, of Mymensingh; Robayet Alam alias Dhrubo alias Rubo, 33, of Brahmanbaria; and Abu Ayub alias Khalid, 36, of Rangpur.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of Rab's legal and media wing, said this at a press conference at Rab Headquarters, Mymensingh.
According to the Rab official, the "gunfight" took place with JMB members around 4:00am as a Rab team conducted a raid in Khaghdahar area on the bank of the Brahmaputra.
Later, four JMB members were arrested, he said, adding that they seized firearms, explosives and sharp weapons from their possession. No casualties was reported, he added.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin said the arrestees confessed their involvement in various militant activities during primary interrogation.
The arrestees recently took a special training at a secret place in Jamalpur and were tasked to rob financial and business institutions to render financial support for JMB, he claimed.
