UP polls: 10 injured, AL rebel candidate’s office vandalised in Pabna
At least four people suffered bullet injuries after two rival groups clashed over previous enmity at the Haatkhali area in Pabna's Sujanagar upazila last night while the Awami League rebel candidate's campaign office was also vandalised.
Police however said the clash and the attack are two separate incidents and no case was filed over the incidents, reports our Pabna correspondent.
"Two rival groups, Mollah Gang and Bishwas Gang, in the area clashed over their previous enmity around 10 pm yesterday and this is not related to the attack at the campaign office," said Sujanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mizanur Rahman.
"Both groups locked in a clash with firearms leaving 10 injured including four who suffered bullet injuries. They were admitted to Pabna General Hospital," he said.
Following the clash, AL men vandalised a polls campaign office at the Nuruddinpur market area of Haatkhali union, alleged Firoz Ahmed Khan, AL rebel UP chairman candidate of Haatkhali union.
"As I am contesting the union parishad election independently, the AL men became angry over this and attacked my men and vandalised my campaign office," Firoz, also a Krishak League leader told journalists.
AL UP candidate Abdur Rouf, however, denied the allegation of the attack and said family enmity between two groups at the Barvagia village was the reason for the clash that foiled a peaceful election environment.
Sujanagar upazila union parishad elections will be held on November 11.
