Policeman stabbed 'by daughter' for forcefully marrying her off

Police today arrested a 20-year-old girl in a case filed over stabbing her father, a police official, last night in retaliation for marrying her off without her consent in Rangpur's Pirgachha upazila.

Fazal Mahmud, 50, a sub-inspector of Range Reserve Force (RRF), is now undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital, Md Kamruzzaman, assistant superintendent (Circle-C) of Rangpur police said today.

The father filed a case with Pirgacha Police Station in this connection.

The incident took place at Taluk Ishat Dararpar area last night before the groom reached the wedding venue, the police official told our Dinajpur correspondent.

SI Fazal Mahmud arranged the wedding ceremony of his daughter yesterday but she did not agree to the marriage, ASP Kamruzzaman said.

Around 10:30pm, the girl called her father to her room and stabbed him in the neck with an anti-cutter, leaving him seriously injured, Kamruzzaman added.

Fazal was rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital immediately after the incident.

The arrestee was produced before the district court this afternoon.
