Police seek 7-day remand for Helena Jahangir in case under Telecommunications Act
Pallabi police have submitted a seven-day remand prayer for interrogating Helena Jahangir, a businessperson turned politician, in a case filed with the police station under the Telecommunications Act.
Md Yamin Kabir, an inspector (operation) of Pallabi Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, yesterday submitted the remand prayer with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Atiqul Islam directed police to place the petition before his court on the day when Helena would be produced before him on completion of her three-day remand in another case filed with Gulshan Police Station under Digital Security Act.
In the case filed with Pallabi Police Station, it was alleged that Helena operated Joyjatra tv without government approval and licence and was running its office illegally in Dhaka's Mirpur area.
On July 31, Gulshan police submitted a five-day remand prayer for Helena in the case filed by Narcotics Control Act, Special Powers Act, Wildlife Conservation Act and Telecommunications Act while the other case was filed with Pallabi Police Station under the Telecommunications Act.
The same magistrate issued a similar order in this regard.
On Friday, a Dhaka court placed Helena on a three-day remand in the case filed under the Digital Security Act.
The law enforcers arrested her during a raid at her Gulshan residence on Thursday night. After her arrest, Rab conducted raid at the IPTV station and sealed it off.
