Police action during SCBA polls: HC refuses to order probe
The High Court today refused to pass an order to conduct probe into the allegation against police of assaulting pro-BNP lawyers and forcing them to leave the polling centre on March 15, first day of the two-day annual Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election.
Delivering order on a writ petition, the court observed that the allegations mentioned in the petition are involved with the questions of facts, which cannot be dealt with by this court.
The allegations might be placed before any other forum if those are specific, the HC bench of Justice Md Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir said.
The bench, however, said the alleged incidents mentioned in the writ petition are unexpected and unfortunate.
With the observations, the bench disposed of the writ petition that challenged the legality of the police action at the SCBA polling centre on March 15.
All the 14 candidates from pro-BNP lawyers' panel had collectively submitted the writ petition to the HC on March 19 seeking its directive on the Supreme Court registrar general to conduct a probe into the police action.
In the petition, they also requested the HC to order the authorities concerned of the government not to allow police to enter into SCBA premises without permission from the SC administration.
Senior Advocate AJ Mohammmad Ali appeared for the writ petitioners while Deputy Attorney General Bepul Bagmar represented the state during hearing of the petition.
