Planning minister’s phone recovered after one and half months; 5 arrested

The mobile phone of Planning Minister MA Mannan, which was snatched at Dhaka's Bijoy Sarani area more than one and half months ago, was recovered yesterday.

Police also arrested five persons in connection with stealing the phone during raids in several Dhaka areas.

The arrestees are: Md Sagir, Suman Mia, Md Jakir, Hamid Ahmed alias Sohag and Md Jiban.

Police officials said they recovered the minister's iPhone while investigating a case filed with Dhanmondi Police Station on July 12.

Police first arrested Sagir and Suman after identifying them from CCTV footage. Later, they arrested Jakir, Sohag and Jiban, and recovered 10 phones including the minister's iPhone.

On May 30, minister MA Mannan left his office and was waiting in traffic at Bijoy Sarani. He was talking on the phone. As the window of the SUV was lowered, a person grabbed his phone and ran away, police said.

A case was filed with Kafrul Police Station then.
