Petition filed with HC over Murad’s JS membership

A lawyer filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of Murad Hasan's Jatiya Sangsad membership yesterday.

Supreme Court lawyer Md Eunus Ali Akond submitted the petition as a public interest litigation a day after Murad resigned from the post of state minister for information and broadcasting.

The prime minister asked him to resign from his state minister post following a wave of criticism for his derogatory remarks.

Lawyer Eunus submitted the petition saying that Murad violated his oath as a JS member by making the remarks.

He prayed to the HC to pass necessary directives for conducting a judicial inquiry into Murad's obscene comments.

Meanwhile, the cyber and special crime unit of the Detective Branch will investigate the complaint lodged against Murad by ex-Dhaka University student Zulius Caesar Talukder on Tuesday for making derogatory comments about DU and its female students.

Shahbag police sent the complaint to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner yesterday for necessary measures, said Moudut Hoawlader, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Faruk Hossain, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP, said the DC of the cyber and special crime unit will collect the complaint from the commissioner today and assign an officer to investigate it.

"After investigation, the officer will submit the probe report to the judge of the cyber tribunal, Dhaka who will instruct whether a case will be filed," Faruk told The Daily Star last night.
