Patient’s relatives sedated, robbed at DMCH
Three relatives of a patient were sedated and robbed at Dhaka Medical College Hospital last night.
The victims -- Jahura Khatun (60), her son-in-law Ameer Hossain (35), and granddaughter Sumona Akter (20) -- are receiving treatment at the hospital.
A middle-aged woman, identifying herself as the patient's attendant, started talking to the victims as they were sitting on a mat in the corridor of the Gynecology ward around 10:00 pm, said one of the victims, Ameer.
The trio was accompanying a patient from Brahmanbaria, Sumi Akter, who was admitted to the DMCH with Gynecological complexities.
"At one stage of our conversation, the woman offered us juice. What we can recall is we drank the juice," Ameer said.
The woman took away cash, two mobile phones, and gold ornaments after they fell unconscious.
"We thought they were sleeping in the morning. But as the day went by and they were not responding, we understood that they were doped," said Sumi's husband Shah Alam, who was with the patient at night.
Later, they were taken to the emergency unit of the hospital, he added.
DMCH Director Brig Gen Dr Nazmul Haque said they received a complaint that three people were robbed at the hospital and they were looking into it.
Inspector Bachchu Mia, in charge of the DMCH Police outpost, said they informed Shahbagh Police about the incident.
