Panchagarh UP chairman sent to jail for beating up plaintiff on court premises
A Panchagarh court today sent Banglabandha Union Parishad Chairman Kudrat-e-Khuda Milon to jail in a case filed over beating up a plaintiff on the court premises on September 16.
Acting Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Matiur Rahman also rejected bail while the chairman appeared before the court and sought bail this afternoon, our Thakurgaon correspondent reports.
Panchagarh Police Station Sub-inspector (SI) Bhabesh Chandra Pal said Abdul Hamid of Balubari village filed a case against 17 people, including Milon, in connection with a clash over a disputed land on March 18 last year.
After investigation, police submitted charge sheet of the case accusing 14 people including the UP chairman.
Citing the case, SI Bhabesh said, Milon with other accused appeared at the court for seeking permanent bail in the case on September 16. While Milon and his fellows were coming out from the court inspector's room after filing the bail petition, plaintiff Hamid was entering the same room that led a scuffle.
After that, Milon's associates beat up Hamid when he went to the court canteen on September 16.
Hearing Hamid's screams, police rushed the spot and brought the situation under control.
Later on that day, Mozibar Rahman, sub-inspector and also GRO of the court, filed a case against 11/12 people, including Milon, for obstructing government officials from performing their duties.
Milon is the organising secretary of Tentulia upazila unit of Awami League. He was elected as the chairman of Banglabandha union in 2016 with the AL ticket. This time he is contesting for the post as an independent candidate as he failed to secure AL nomination.
