One tonne rotten tea seized in Ctg
Bangladesh Tea Board today seized one tonne of rotten and expired tea, along with a large number of tea packets with fake brand names, from a trader in the port city.
On a tip-off, a mobile court led by Bangladesh Tea Board (BTB) Deputy Secretary and Executive Magistrate Mohammad Ruhul Amin conducted the drive at a tea trading shop -- New Alif Enterprise -- in the city's Saltgola area in the morning.
They recovered rotten and expired tea dust mixed with sand, stone, and dirt, along with many tea packets with the names of 13 fake brands. Afterward, they closed the shop, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.
Ruhul Amin said the owner has been trading without BTB blender license and BSTI license.
Some unscrupulous traders are engaged in making tea packets with fake brands that contain substandard tea dust. These pose serious health risks for consumers, he added.
BTB began such drives in August. Till October 5, they seized 10 tonnes of substandard tea and fined five traders around Tk two lakh.
