Police detained a man along with 20 gold bars, weighing 2.25 kg, from a bus on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Chandina upazila of Cumilla today.

The detainee is Mahmudul Hasan (42) of Satkania upazila in Chattogram, said Inspector Arifur Rahman of Chandina Police Station.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team took position in Rabirchar area on the highway and halted a Dhaka-bound bus from Chattogram around 12:30pm.

When Mahmudul tried to flee from the bus, police detained him and recovered 20 gold bars from inside his two shoes after searching his body, he said.

The market price of the seized gold is approximately at Tk 1.30 crore, said the inspector.

Process is underway to file a case in this connection, added the police official.
