One arrested for beating dog to death in Narsingdi: Rab

Members of Rapid Action Battalion-11 have arrested a man last night for allegedly killing a dog in Narsingdi Sadar upazila.
Muktar Hossain (43) a rickshaw puller, was arrested from his house around 9:30 pm based on a complaint filed by Robin Hood the Animal Rescuer, a voluntary organisation working to protect the rights of animals.
The organisation filed the complaint after a video of the incident went viral on social media, Rab-11 Commanding Officer Khandaker Md Shamim told The Daily Star.
Afzal Hossain, founder of Robinhood the Animal Rescuer, said, "Muktar Hossain and another person of the same area beat a dog to death on the road at 7:30 am on Monday (September 26, 2022).
"The matter was caught on CCTV next to the spot and after getting to know about the matter from Facebook, I called 999 and contacted Rab, which arrested the accused and took them to their office. Later, when the accused was handed over to the police station, I filed a case with Narsingdi Sadar Police Station last night accusing the two," he said.
"During primary interrogation, it was found that Muktar had beaten five dogs to death earlier," the Rab Co said.
"Afzal Hossain, the founder of the voluntary organisation 'Robinhood the Animal Rescuer', contacted us through 999. He also filed a case against Muktar under the Animal Preservation Act for killing the dog. Muktar's associate was released on bail as he was a minor," he added.
Narsingdi Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kashem Bhuiyan could not be reached over phone to confirm the case filed.
