Nayapaltan clash: 426 BNP men seek bail

A total of 426 leaders and activists of BNP's front organisations today sought bail from Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court in a case filed over the December 7 clash between police and the party men in Dhaka's Nayapaltan area.

Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, personal assistant to party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, is among the accused who sought bail in the case filed with Paltan Model Police Station.

They submitted the bail petitions after the Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court rejected their bails on three consecutive dates on different reasons, said Zaynal Abedin Mesbah, one of their lawyers.

Judge Md Asaduzzaman of Dhaka's Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court fixed January 30, 2023 for hearing the bail petitions.

The same court yesterday rejected the bail petitions of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and its standing committee member Mirza Abbas after their lawyers submitted petitions in the same case.

The case was filed with Paltan Model Police Station on December 8, a day after the clash broke out in front of the party's Nayapaltan office.

The clash left one person dead and scores of others injured.
