Nahid murder: 5 Dhaka College students sent to jail after 2-day remand
A Dhaka court today sent five Dhaka College students to jail after they were produced before it on completion of their two-day remand in a case filed over the death of Nahid Mia during the students-traders clash in Dhaka's New Market area on April 19.
The arrestees are: Abdul Kaiyum (24), Polash Mia (24), Mahmood Irfan (24), Foysal Islam (24), and Junaid Bugdadi (19).
Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order after Md Tariqul Alam Jewel, an inspector of Detective Branch of Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before it with a forwarding report.
The magistrate also rejected a bail petition of Foysal after his lawyer moved it on grounds that he was not involved with the killing.
No lawyers stood on behalf of the four other accused in the court to defend them.
In the today's forwarding report, the IO said all the five accused gave important information about the killing which was being verified. So, the IO appealed to the court to confine in jail until the investigation is completed.
Upon the hearing, the magistrate ordered to send them to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.
Nahid Mia (19), who was critically injured during the clash between shop employees and Dhaka College Students in the New Market area, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on the night of April 19.
Following the incident, victim's father filed a case with New Market Police Station in this regard.
