‘My boy was killed’
Parents, relatives and students demonstrated in Tangail town yesterday, demanding arrest of those responsible for the death of a fifth-grader of a private school.
Shihab, a residential student of Sristy School,was found dead in the dormitory on June 20. The body bore injury marks on different parts.
The demonstrators brought out a protest procession in the town and later formed a human chain and staged a rally in front of Tangail Press Club.
The students of the school and other educational institutions in Tangail and their guardians also joined the programmes.
Terming the death a murder, speakers demanded exemplary punishment for the killers.
They alleged that the school authorities tortured Shihab that led to the death.
The protesters said legal steps must be taken against the school authorities as well as those responsible for Shihab's death.
They warned that tougher movement will be launched if their demands are not met by Sunday.
Amid the rally, Shihab's bereaved parents, sister and other relatives from Berbari village in Sakhipur upazila could not bear the pain and started crying.
"My boy was killed. I want justice," said Shihab's father.
Mir Moshraf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tangail Sadar Police Station, said an unnatural death case was filed with over Shihab's death. "Further necessary legal measures will be taken after getting the autopsy report."
The school authorities were not available for comments.
The Daily Star could not verify the incident independently.
