Mugger stabs to death auto-rickshaw driver for Tk 1500
A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, who was stabbed by a mugger in Khilgaon yesterday afternoon, died at a city hospital early this morning.
The deceased was identified as Mamun Hawlader (45), a resident of Kamrangirchar area.
Mamun breathed his last around 4:30am at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
A young man stabbed Mamun in the neck first when he was eating snacks at Khilgaon' Taltola market area after a trip from New Market. The attacker tried to snatch Tk 1500 from Mamun, for which he stabbed Mamun in the abdomen several times, Mamun told police and journalists at the hospital before his death.
When he screamed for help, locals rushed there and caught the attacker and handed him over to police.
Some pedestrians took Mamun to a nearby hospital from where he was taken to DMCH.
Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Rampura Police Station, said a youth was detained over the incident. Filing of a case is underway.
The body was sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy.
