Mohila Dal leader Sultana sent to jail on completion of remand in DSA case

A Dhaka court today sent Sultana Ahmed, general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal and former lawmaker from reserved seats, to jail in a case filed against her under the Digital Security Act.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain today (November 9, 2022) passed the order after Muhammad Ashraful Alam, sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station and investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced Sultana before the court on completion of her two-day remand in the case.
In the forwarding report, the IO said Sultana gave vital clues to the incident and as such she needs to be confined in jail until the investigation is completed.
Defence, meanwhile, submitted an application, seeking first class division in jail custody considering her social status.
Upon hearing both the sides, the magistrate ordered to send her to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.
The magistrate also directed jail authorities to provide her first-class division if the jail code allows it.
Sultana was accused of making derogatory remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a rally in Paltan on September 1, 2022.
