Mohib Ullah Murder: All to foil Rohingya return
The plan to kill Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah was made at a meeting on September 27 night at Kutupalong refugee camp in Ukhiya, police officials said.
Four of the suspected assailants joined the meeting at Lombashia Morkoz Hill around 10:00pm and discussed that there was an order from their leaders to kill Muhib, they added.
They discussed that Muhib was becoming too influential as a leader and he must be killed to foil the repatriation process, Naimul Haque, superintendent of police and commander of 14th Armed Police Battalion (APBn), told a press briefing at his office in Ukhiya yesterday.
As per the plan, a member of the group, Murshid Amin, went to Muhib's home in Kutupalong on September 29 night and requested him to come outside to discuss the repatriation process.
Muhib then went to the nearby office of the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights to talk to the man.
Murshid then informed two other suspects, Mohammad Anas and Noor Mohammad, that Muhib was staying at his office.
The team of assailants waiting at an orchard near Block- C-8 in the camp was then alerted. Soon afterwards, nine assailants, three of them wielding firearms, entered Muhib's office.
Two of the gunmen fired one shot each and the other fired two at Muhib, the commander said, adding that the assailants then fled through the orchard and went into hiding.
Nineteen men were involved in the killing and they executed their plan in less than two minutes. Five of the suspects had firearms, Naimul said.
Police got the details from arrested suspect Azizul Haque, 36.
Azizul, a key suspect, was picked up from near the Lohar Bridge area by the Kutupalong camp around 4:00am, the officer said.
Three other suspects, Mohammad Rashid alias Murshid Amin, 35, Mohammad Anas, 35, and Noor Mohammad, 40, were arrested later yesterday.
Naimul said the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) did not exist in the camps. But miscreants could be committing crimes in the name of ARSA.
Nine people have so far been arrested in connection with Muhib's assassination. One of them made a confessional statement before a court.
Meanwhile, police have detained eight men in connection with the killing of six Rohingyas at a refugee camp in Ukhiya on Friday, APBn officials said.
However, no case was filed in this connection as of 8:00pm last night.
The six Rohingyas were killed and eight others injured as an armed group attacked Darul Ulum Nadwatul Ulama Al-Islamia Madrasa in Moinarghona camp-18.
