Models Piyasha, Mou remanded in narcotics cases
Model and former TV presenter Faria Mahbub Piyasha and model Mariam Akhter Mou, who were detained by detectives last night, were placed on three-day remand each today after being sued in two separate cases under the Narcotics Control Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahidul Islam placed Piyasha on a three-day remand after Md Alamgir Siddique, an inspector of Cyber and Special Crime Department and also investigation officer of the case, produced her before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.
On the other hand, Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam placed Mou on remand after Md Mazharul Islam, also Cyber and Special Crime Department inspector and IO of the case, produced her before the court with 10-day remand prayer.
Defence for both Piyasha and Mou submitted petitions seeking bail along with cancellation of the remand prayers, saying that their clients were implicated in the cases as part of a conspiracy to harass them.
The magistrates, however, rejected the bail petitions and placed them on remand to gather information about the narcotics in their possession.
Earlier today, Sub-inspector Shahidul Islam from Detective Branch of police filed a case against Piyasha with Gulshan Police Station, while Inspector Shishir Kumar Karmakar of the same unit filed another case against Mou with Mohammadpur Police Station under Narcotics Control Act.
DB officials began a drive last night and arrested Piyasha from her Baridhara residence while Mou was arrested from her Mohammadpur residence.
They claimed to have seized liquor and yaba pills from their homes. However, Mou, during the drive, told reporters that there were no drugs in her house.
After the arrest, Harun-ur-Rashid, joint commissioner of DB (North Division) of DMP, told reporters that the two were members of a blackmailing ring. They arranged drugs for young men and women and used to take compromising photos of them. And later, they would blackmail them with those photos.
