Mitu murder case: HC grants anticipatory bail to accused Bhola
The High Court today granted anticipatory bail to accused Ehteshamul Haque Bhola for four weeks in a case filed for the gruesome murder of Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of former superintendent of police (SP) of Chattogram Babul Akter in June, 2016.
A HC bench, however, ordered Ehteshamul to surrender to the trial court concerned on expiry of bail in connection with the case.
The bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajol passed the order following a petition filed by Ehteshamul seeking bail in the case.
Earlier in the day, accused Ehteshamul appeared before the HC bench for bail.
Ehteshamul's lawyer Muhammad Hasibur Rahman told The Daily Star that his client earlier suffered in jail for around two years in connection with the same case filed by Babul Akter.
Ehteshamul, a businessman by profession, got released from jail on bail granted by the HC on May 6, 2018.
Mitu's father also filed a murder case this year in connection with the same incident and Ehteshamul has been implicated in the case, he said, adding that only Ehteshamul among total eight accused is now on bail.
On June 5, 2016, Mitu was stabbed and shot dead while she was taking her son to his school bus stop at the port city's GEC intersection. After the murder, Babul filed a case against three unidentified men with Panchlaish Police Station.
Later, PBI took over the case from Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram metropolitan police (CMP).
On May 11 this year, Chattogram PBI summoned Babul to its office for interrogation. He failed to give satisfactory answers to the detectives and was taken into PBI custody.
The following day, Mitu's father filed a murder case against eight people, making Babul the prime accused in the case. Mitu's father alleged that Babul is the mastermind of the killing and he killed his wife over his extra-marital affair.
